Piping Designer

Job Summary
As a Piping Designer, you will support the layout, modeling, and detailing of piping systems for oil and gas and industrial facilities.  This role within a global engineering firm involves developing high-quality piping design deliverables in coordination with multidisciplinary teams to support EPC project execution from detailed design through construction.


Key Responsibilities
Piping Design & Layout
  • Develop piping layouts, 3D models, and detailed drawings in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes, and industry standards.
  • Produce piping plans, isometrics, general arrangement drawings, and material take-offs.
  • Ensure designs consider constructability, maintainability, accessibility, and safety requirements.
Project Execution & Coordination
  • Coordinate piping design activities with process, mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil disciplines.
  • Incorporate vendor data, field conditions, and engineering updates into piping models and drawings.
  • Support design reviews, model reviews, and resolution of interdisciplinary clashes.
Construction & Field Support
  • Provide design support during construction, including responding to RFIs and updating drawings as required.
  • Assist with field walkdowns, as-built documentation, and redline incorporation.
  • Support commissioning and turnover documentation as needed.
Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure piping deliverables meet quality standards, project procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in internal checks, design reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Diploma or certificate in Piping Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Intermediate-level experience with 4–9 years in piping design for oil and gas or industrial facilities.
  • Experience working in an EPC or engineering consultancy environment.
  • Strong understanding of piping design practices, applicable codes, and industrial safety requirements.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard piping design and 3D modeling software tools (general familiarity expected).
  • Strong coordination skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada and ability to work from or support projects based in Burnaby, BC.
