TWD is currently seeking an Intermediate Capital Cost Estimator (Mechanical) in our Pittsburgh, PA office.

Position Overview:

We are looking for a detail-oriented Intermediate Capital Cost Estimator (Mechanical) with a strong focus on the mechanical discipline. You will develop accurate cost estimates for mechanical equipment, specialized piping, HVAC, and structural components for industrial manufacturing and Food & Beverage projects. You have a grasp of hygienic design principles and how HACCP requirements impact the pricing and execution of mechanical scopes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Estimate Development: Prepare detailed material take-offs (MTOs) from P&IDs and 3D models for process piping, sanitary/hygienic piping (304/316L SS), and utility piping (chilled water, compressed air, steam).
  • HACCP & Hygienic Design: Apply HACCP principles to mechanical estimating, ensuring accurate pricing for sanitary design elements such as orbital welding (including specialized inspection/boroscopy), elimination of dead legs, surface finish (Ra) requirements, and CIP/SIP (Clean/Sterilize-In-Place) systems.
  • Equipment Pricing: Solicit and evaluate vendor budgetary quotes for specialized F&B equipment, including homogenizers, pasteurizers, sanitary pumps, and advanced material handling systems.
  • Brownfield Allowances: Apply specific productivity adjustments for brownfield environments, accounting for dust control, temporary hygienic hoarding, and tie-ins to live sanitary mechanical systems.
  • Labor Norms: Apply standard industry labor man-hour norms to mechanical installations and adjust for site-specific conditions, clean-build requirements, and specialized sanitary welding rates.
  • AACE Compliance: Assist in the preparation of AACE Class 3 and Class 2 detailed estimates, ensuring clear basis of estimate (BOE) documentation.
Qualifications:
  • 4–7 years of estimating experience specifically focused on mechanical and piping disciplines within industrial, manufacturing, or F&B sectors.
  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hygienic design standards, HACCP construction requirements, and sanitary piping systems.
  • Familiarity with AACE Recommended Practices; actively working towards AACE certification is an asset.
  • Experience with consulting cost and schedule risk assessments a plus
