Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Manager to support our client onsite in a Major Steel Production Environment located in Gary, Indiana. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the Steel production environment or industrial construction sector, along with excellent leadership and communication skills. This role involves travel, to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance CPMC and all safety and regulatory standards.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide construction leadership either directly or via the supervision of contractors, depending upon the requirements of the project contracts. Representative activities include, but are not limited to:
- Safety, Health and Environmental
- Ensure compliance with state and federal health, safety and environment (HSE) regulations.
- Must be an excellent communicator and ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
- Perform site inspections.
- Ensure hazardous work is performed in a safe manner.
- Participate in safety/incident investigations.
- Ensure the vehicle and equipment checks are carried out and documentation managed.
- Ensure field level risk assessments (FLRAs) are completed.
- Administration
- Maintain site Supervisor's log and site reports
- Prepare daily production records.
- Complete quality reports
- Facilitate mandatory toolbox talks.
- Monitor labour productivity.
- Attend Daily meetings as required.
- Leadership and Supervision
- Develop an effective construction crew
- Manage crew performance
- Assign crew tasks
- Ensure workers are trained to perform work
- Resolve conflicts between crew members
- Maintain work standards and outline behavioural expectation
- Apply applicable labour laws and standards
- Understand and apply all company human resource policies
- Work cooperatively with all contractors and subcontractors
- Abide by union rules and obligations when applicable.
- Planning and Scheduling
- Ensure safety, quality, and productivity of construction projects
- Translate general work requirements into a prioritized work plan
- Coordinate and work with other subcontractors
- Work with authorities having jurisdiction
- Ensure that all work is performed to the applicable codes
- Support PM/ superintendent in identifying RFIs and CCNs
- Organize and manage lifts
- Manage construction materials
- Manage construction tools and equipment
- Manage completions process
- Support commissioning process
- Quality Control:
- Perform on-site assessment prior to commencing work
- Oversee the execution of the work
- Demonstrate subject matter expertise
- Monitor quality of construction work
- Establish lines and levels for construction operations
- Inspect and measure completed work
- Delivering upon the projects goals, objectives, risks, assumptions, staffing levels, roles and responsibilities, work breakdown structure, milestones, and deliverables required by the project.
- Provide Subject Matter Expertise input into the Preparation of Tender Process, Budgets, Estimates, Construction Schedules, progress, and monthly reports
- Plan, organize and deliver construction scopes or work in accordance with the requirements of the project execution plan and execution contracts
- Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise activities of all company personnel on assigned projects
- Ensure all company, client, and project policies, procedures, standards, etc., are adhered to.
- Establish and deliver mechanisms for tracking project progress and reporting to stakeholders via a formal communication plan
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, field drawings and plans.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction management, preferably in the Steel Production environment or industrial sector.
- Must be an excellent communicator with a confident and humble demeanor and a culture for Safety First.
- Participate in key design reviews during FEL.
- Participate in the project Risk Review meeting
- Review the layouts from a constructability and safety perspective.
- Tracks construction contract progress and support the change management activities.
- Works with Project Manager to facilitate various Project Safety Line-up and Project Safety
- Works with Project Manager/ Project Safety Manager to identify and mitigate hazards in the project/ construction.
- Works with maintenance and operations representatives to ensure safe site access and communication.
- Participates in incidents investigations involving any U.S. Steel plant personnel participating in the project.
