TWD is currently seeking an Intermediate Electrical Designer for our Energy and Oil & Gas projects to support our client based in Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta this is a permanent position!
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and revise electrical design drawings and documentation for oil and gas processing facilities, including:
- Single-line diagrams
- Wiring schematics and panel layouts
- Cable tray and conduit routing
- Lighting and grounding layouts
- Motor control center (MCC) and VFD arrangements
- Perform load calculations, cable sizing, voltage drop, and short-circuit analysis in coordination with engineers.
- Support EHT (Electric Heat Tracing) layout and design.
- Prepare cable schedules, junction box layouts, and termination diagrams.
- Collaborate with multi-discipline teams (instrumentation, process, mechanical, civil) during design development.
- Participate in site visits to gather field data, verify as-builts, and support construction planning.
- Support the creation of IFC (Issued for Construction) and as-built drawing packages.
- Ensure all work complies with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), CSA standards, AER directives, and company-specific specifications.
- Respond to construction RFIs and provide redlines during field execution.
- Contribute to facility expansions, retrofits, debottlenecking, and maintenance projects
Qualifications:- Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in electrical design for oil and gas facilities.
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and/or SmartPlant Electrical; familiarity with MicroStation is an asset.
- Solid understanding of CEC, CSA, and AER facility regulations.
- Familiarity with hazardous area classification and electrical installation in classified areas.
- Ability to interpret and apply P&IDs, vendor data, and client specifications.
- Strong documentation and communication skills; ability to work independently and in teams.
- Preferred Assets:
- CET designation with ASET or eligibility.
- Field experience supporting construction, commissioning, or maintenance in operational facilities.
- Exposure to SAGD, dehydration/compression, or refinery projects.
- Knowledge of ETAP, SKM, or similar for collaboration with power engineers (optional).
