Position Overview:
We are seeking an Intermediate Capital Cost Estimator specializing in Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I). You will quantify and price electrical power distribution, complex automation systems, and field instrumentation for high-speed manufacturing and Food & Beverage facilities. A key component of this role involves understanding how HACCP protocols dictate the selection, pricing, and installation methods of E&I components in washdown and food-safe environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- E&I Take-offs: Perform detailed material take-offs from single-line diagrams, instrument indexes, cable schedules, and loop diagrams for power, control, and network architectures.
- HACCP & Sanitary Instrumentation: Account for HACCP requirements in E&I estimates, including washdown-rated (NEMA 4X/IP69K) enclosures, sanitary sensors for monitoring Critical Control Points (CCPs), standoffs for equipment, and hygienic cable routing practices that prevent debris accumulation.
- Automation & Controls: Estimate costs for process automation specific to F&B and manufacturing, including machine vision systems, PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, and automated packaging controls.
- Greenfield vs. Brownfield: Accurately price greenfield underground duct banks while also estimating brownfield challenges such as upgrading legacy field instruments without disrupting production or compromising food safety.
- Labor & Installation: Apply appropriate labor hours for cable pulling (in sanitary stainless steel tray systems), terminations, instrument calibration, and loop testing, factoring in site-specific productivity and gowning/hygiene protocols.
- Documentation & Sourcing: Author the E&I section of the Basis of Estimate (BOE) document and engage with electrical/automation vendors to obtain current market pricing for specialized, food-grade instrumentation.
- 4–7 years of estimating experience dedicated to Electrical and Instrumentation scopes in process, manufacturing, or F&B environments.
- Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Technology, or Journeyman Electrician/Instrumentation certification with equivalent estimating experience.
- Knowledge of instrumentation and control systems specifically designed for food safety, harsh washdown environments, and HACCP compliance.
- Familiarity with AACE Recommended Practices; actively working towards AACE certification is an asset.
- Experience with consulting cost and schedule risk assessments a plus
